National News
60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
At the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), India strongly criticized Pakistan for misusing the platform with baseless allegations. Indian representative Kshitij Tyagi advised Pakistan to focus on its struggling economy, military control, poor human rights record, and terrorism export, rather than targeting India. India emphasized that UNHRC must uphold objectivity and universality instead of country-specific biases. It advocated dialogue, cooperation, and capacity-building for sustainable human rights progress.

25 September Current Affairs 2025 – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) introduced draft regulations, Telecom (Broadcasting and Cable) Services Interconnection (Seventh Amendment) Regulations, 2025, to be effective from April 1, 2026. Aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability, the new framework mandates audits to follow the financial year cycle, reporting deadlines by September 30, and 30-day advance audit notifications. The Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) was designated as a TRAI-listed auditor.
Satellite Internet
Satellite Internet is emerging as a crucial tool in India’s digital revolution. With 1,002.85 million internet subscribers as of June 2025, India is pushing satellite internet to extend connectivity to remote areas where terrestrial networks cannot reach. Services will use Geostationary (GSO) and Non-Geostationary Orbits (NGSO) satellites, particularly LEO (low latency) and MEO (wider coverage) systems. Regulatory oversight will remain with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and TRAI.
Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that polluted river stretches (PRS) decreased from 311 in 2022 to 296 in 2023, yet river pollution remains a severe challenge. The Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) indicator showed many rivers unfit for bathing (above 3 mg/L). Maharashtra had the highest polluted stretches (54), followed by Kerala (31). Industrial effluents, agricultural runoff, and urban waste were identified as prime culprits. Programs like Namami Gange, Ganga Action Plan, and Nirmal Ganga Nidhi continue tackling the crisis.
M.S.C. Pater vs. State of Delhi
25 September Current Affairs 2025 – The Supreme Court of India in M.S.C. Pater vs. State of Delhi ruled that state-run beggar homes are constitutional trusts ensuring the right to a dignified life under Article 21. Children must be placed in child welfare homes under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, not in beggar homes. The Court highlighted begging as a socio-economic issue rather than a crime, criticizing laws like the Bombay Prevention of Begging Act, 1959. The government’s SMILE scheme (2022) aims for a beggar-free India by 2026. As per Census 2011, India has 4.13 lakh beggars, with West Bengal reporting the highest.
